Overview of Outdoor Idea

:

This project is dedicated to creating an educational space around growing food as a community. Workshops, volunteer opportunities, tools, knowledge and other resources will be provided to ALL aspiring gardeners. All produce will be donated to local nonprofits devoted to feeding those in need.

The Specifics: What will the $5,000 fund?

Funds will be used to expand an already existing garden, providing tools, seeds, irrigation, fencing and other materials need to create an accessible and educational space. A small shed will be built to host a garden tool library in which community members may "check out" tools to use in their own gardens. Funds will also be used to implement free workshops providing a forum to discuss and learn about urban agriculture in Colorado. Workshops will focus on topics such as seed saving, plant/weed identification, vermiculture, composting and food preservation. People can exchange volunteer hours for produce. Relationships are already in place with organizations that serve low income families who are interested in learning about growing food.

In 2011, we grew over 2000 lbs of fresh veggies from the existing 5800 sq. ft garden--imagine what we could do with an acre! The rest of the land on the property is currently a junkyard, but underneath is some really rich soil of a former dairy farm. Let's talk permaculture forest gardens, classes for school children, innovations in rainwater harvesting, and so much more! Let's make this place a real model for regenerative urban agriculture, and an inspiration for our community both local and global. In the meantime, come on down to HammerTime M-W-Sat 12-8 for some good old fashioned building, sewing, reading, and growing!! Thanks for voting y'all!
