The Summer Learning Program will provide Kansas City's most at-risk urban core youth with a 5-day residential camp experience focused on providing children the opportunity to connect with nature and share in the joy of living and learning in the outdoors.
$5,000 will provide 25 at-risk urban core youth with an opportunity to participate in the Summer Learning program. Summer Learning is held during five 5-day sessions beginning in early June and concluding in late July. During each 5-day experience campers will be engaged in an integrated curriculum that utilizes current best practices in outdoor/experiential/adventure education. Summer Learning is non-traditional education at its best and features strong academic goals. Campers participate in a curriculum that develops improved understanding in areas of natural sciences, conflict resolution, problem-solving and leadership development. Every child will experience non-traditional learning and will deepen their respect for nature.
