Atlanta Streets Alive encourages more livable streets by temporarily closing streets to cars and opening them up for people to walk, bike, skate, dance, or play. We take a valuable public space - city streets - generally experienced by car, and create opportunities for human-powered amusement.
$5,000 will fund one mile of security and barricades required for a street closure. That mile will give 7,000-10,000 people the chance to get active in the street. As a small nonprofit, we rely on donations, grants, and sponsorships to create this event, and to keep it free.
During the event, over fifty activity partners host fun and quirky games, from bike polo to zumba to street hockey to double dutch, to a bike parade, all to the tune of wandering bards. It’s the perfect opportunity to dust off your bike, skates, or other wheels to roll down a car-free street, learn a new dance move, stroll down the avenue, or meet your neighborhoods.
Atlanta needs this event to continue to grow our movement for a healthier, more sustainable city.
