Overview of Outdoor Idea

:

The BikeBox will be made from a locally-sourced, used shipping container and placed in an existing parallel parking spot. It will encourage recreational and commuter cycling by providing safe, sheltered bike parking in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood, home to the bustling West Side Market.

The Specifics: What will the $5,000 fund?

The BikeBox will enclose the sidewalk, providing an intimate gathering area and community event space for the surrounding businesses. The street-side “BikeBox” graphic will announce the presence of an active bike community while the W 25th street medallion, common to multiple projects, will reinforce the collective identity of the W 25th commercial corridor. The proposed living roof will improve air quality and suggest the possibility of greening our paved car infrastructure. Finally, the BikeBox design and fabrication process will deepen the partnership of local organizations LAND studio, Rustbelt Welding, Bike Cleveland and Nano Brew Cleveland.
Used Shipping Container = $2,000
Fabrication + Labor = $5,000

Cleveland's cycling energy is exploding off the chart this year--the Bike Corral will be a terrific visible sign of how powerful cycling is becoming in Northeast Ohio

What a great idea! I love the repurposing of the old shipping container. I live in this neighborhood, and the Bike Box would be a wonderful addition.

This is a terrific idea. Every time we "act" like a biking community, we become more of a biking community. And the easier we make it for others, the more who will join in. THanks for pushing this great idea forward.

This project is a must! Ohio City has really taken off as a focal point of Cleveland in the last few years and this addition would contribute to the wonderful bicycle friendly aura Ohio City has grown to culminate! Rock on lets hope this becomes a reality!

It's a box. For bikes and people. And to sculpt a little piece of the street. It's lovely and the living roof sounds amazing. I love this project!

Another great concept from LANDstudio that will help people and help the neighborhood. I love seeing the creative reuse of shipping containers. I'll be encouraging all to vote for this project.

Just what we need! there's already folks parking bikes on anything they can fit a lock around. This will be perfect for market days too, start showing folks we don't need all that car parking to keep the West Side Market bustling and busy!
