The BikeBox will be made from a locally-sourced, used shipping container and placed in an existing parallel parking spot. It will encourage recreational and commuter cycling by providing safe, sheltered bike parking in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood, home to the bustling West Side Market.
The BikeBox will enclose the sidewalk, providing an intimate gathering area and community event space for the surrounding businesses. The street-side “BikeBox” graphic will announce the presence of an active bike community while the W 25th street medallion, common to multiple projects, will reinforce the collective identity of the W 25th commercial corridor. The proposed living roof will improve air quality and suggest the possibility of greening our paved car infrastructure. Finally, the BikeBox design and fabrication process will deepen the partnership of local organizations LAND studio, Rustbelt Welding, Bike Cleveland and Nano Brew Cleveland.
Used Shipping Container = $2,000
Fabrication + Labor = $5,000
