This project will turn a vacant lot in the middle of an urban residential neighborhood into a small park space. Many of Cleveland's neighborhoods are in food deserts, so the park will be landscaped entirely using edible plants to increase community access to fresh produce.
A portion of the grand funds will be used to purchase a vacant lot from the county land bank. The remainder will be put toward seeds, benches, fruit tree saplings, a watering permit and a small tool storage shed. Residents of the neighborhood will plant the seeds, then will be able to enjoy the space as a park and watch the plants grow, while using the plant life to feed their families in an area where fresh vegetables are hard to come by.
