WARNING: This subversive project will lead to participants of all kinds working together to create LIVING SEATING that will surround Baltimore's first LIVING CHAIR, recently built for readers, story tellers, poets, and musicians to amuse, delight, inform, enlighten, and entertain the community.
Funding will be used to work with the local community to create LIVING BASKET STOOLS from live willow. Planted in the ground, the stools will be woven like baskets and filled with soil in which herb “cushions” will grow, providing a fragrant surprise for participants when they sit down. Funding will also be used for the on-going maintenance of the stools (watering, pruning, etc). Three to five stools will be completed at the weekly Farmers Market that is located, with the project, next to Rawlings Conservatory in Druid Hill Park, Baltimore’s largest urban park. A summertime link to the community’s winter reading program in a nearby mall, the project is an expression of the community’s originality and unique creative vision for itself.
