Overview of Outdoor Idea

Nepal needs more original music. This summer, The Music Foundry wants to give 3 Nepali bands/songwriters the opportunity to create original songs and perform live twice a month, wrapping up with an outdoor music festival with the bands along with the 9 songs they create for The Epitome Project.

The Specifics: What will the $5,000 fund?

The Epitome Project is a new kind of music residency in Kathmandu. Three working bands/songwriters from different genres will perform paid gigs (twice a month) and produce at least 1 original Nepali song per month. This will result in a total of 18 live shows and the creation of 9 new songs, which will be recorded for a live album.

The majority of the funds will go toward paying the musicians and engineers to help sustain themselves through music, while also providing the people of Kathmandu with quality live shows. This will also give the musicians the focus and motivation to create new songs.

The rest of the funds will go toward promo materials, live recording, and admin costs.

The goal is to support our local musicians.

This comment from their facebook page may may make more sense;

"Very little encouragement is provided when it comes to OUR local bands creating original Nepali music.
WE SAY TO HELL WITH THAT.
We're doing this for "US" and we need your help to support this project. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE support by clicking on the link below and by voting for THE EPITOME PROJECT"

Thanks for the concern guys. First of all some of our shows are going to be held outside. And yes, finally an outdoor music fest to sum it all up. If you see this in a broader sense from a Nepali perspective, we don't see a project such as this that empowers musicians. Having outdoor shows here with a message we are trying to deliver, we believe, will bring about immense change in the context of Nepal and Nepali music.

"Share how you plan to create social change in the great outdoors" - how is this related to the grant contest? Definitely no vote from me.

Hi, I was just wondering what your project has to do with creating social change in the great outdoors? Just wondering. The whole "outdoor music festival" thing seems to be a bit of a stretch.

I was wondering the same thing myself. Noble project, but doesn't quite seem to fit the goal of the grant...
