The aim of Whale Scout is to station trained naturalists at public parks who will offer their expertise to viewers, providing them with an educational outdoor experience at no cost. We hope to Do GOOD by promoting an appreciation for whales that will ultimately aid in their continued preservation.
The grant from Do GOOD Outdoors will provide the necessary funding to propel Whale Scout to becoming a self-sustaining non-profit organization. We have a budget prepared and an experienced team ready to begin. Grant monies will be used for the following:
1) Apply for federal 501 c 3 non-profit status which will allow us to accept tax deductible donations
2) Develop a website to build awareness and create an online community of outdoor DO GOOD-ers
3) Create and maintain a text message communication system to coordinate between naturalists and viewers
4) Provide outdoor viewing gear and educational materials such as binoculars and field guides
5) Coordinate with local stakeholders
6) Spread the word to get OUTSIDE and watch whales!
