Overview of Outdoor Idea

:

The Whatcom Humane Society is an open-admission, non-profit animal welfare organization in Bellingham, WA. Our tiny facilities cared for 4,800 homeless, unwanted, and abused animals last year alone. The plans for 2012 include the construction of a badly needed new shelter on twelve acres of land.

The Specifics: What will the $5,000 fund?

The land will include numerous walking trails where potential adopters can meet with canine residents in a playful & interactive setting. We are planning memorial gardens & sitting areas for the community to enjoy as well as a vegetable garden to grow fresh produce for the small animals in our care. The building will also be home to a humane education center where children of all ages can learn about the humane treatment and respect for animals. The money would enable us to purchase a small greenhouse, design & build the dog walking trails surrounding the new facility, and buy plants & flowers for the various gardens we have planned.

Electrical boxes exploding, tarps and tires on the rooflines, hotwater heaters bursting, drain pipes failing... and the animals keep coming, and the staff amazingly shows up too. It is at once heartening and heartbreaking to see the scope of the work that is pulled together and pulled off by those dedicated to assisting all animals big and small... every one that shows up at our door. Every single one of them. Every last one of them. Every one of them. Not many shelters can repeat that mantra with integrity and pride. Take a moment to share with all your friends.

Were I not poor as a church mouse, I'd give ya the 5K myself. But as things stand, you get my vote!

We are a very fortunate community to have such a wonderful staff of caring people working and volunteering at the Whatcom Humane Society. It is an exceptional organization and we need to help them help more pets!

Great idea, you do such a great job for the animals. Wish there were more "pounds" of WHS caliber around, filled with people who really care.

Kitty Merlin, who is very happy you saved his life so he could come live with us, votes for you. :)
