The Whatcom Humane Society is an open-admission, non-profit animal welfare organization in Bellingham, WA. Our tiny facilities cared for 4,800 homeless, unwanted, and abused animals last year alone. The plans for 2012 include the construction of a badly needed new shelter on twelve acres of land.
The land will include numerous walking trails where potential adopters can meet with canine residents in a playful & interactive setting. We are planning memorial gardens & sitting areas for the community to enjoy as well as a vegetable garden to grow fresh produce for the small animals in our care. The building will also be home to a humane education center where children of all ages can learn about the humane treatment and respect for animals. The money would enable us to purchase a small greenhouse, design & build the dog walking trails surrounding the new facility, and buy plants & flowers for the various gardens we have planned.
